Novena Prayers
Prayer for Eucharistic Transformation (from In Sinu Jesu)
O my beloved Jesus, unite me to Thyself,
my body to Thy Body, my blood to Thy Blood,
my soul to Thy Soul, my heart to Thy Heart,
all that I am to all that Thou art:
so as to make Me with Thyself, O Jesus,
one priest and one victim
offered to the glory of Thy Father,
out of love for Thy spouse, the Church—
for the sanctification of Thy priests,
the conversion of sinners,
the Holy and traditional intentions of the Pope,
and in sorrowful reparation
for my innumerable sins
against Thee in Thy priesthood
and in the Sacrament of Thy love.
Amen.
Scripture Reflection
“He commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven; and he rained down upon them manna to eat, and gave them the grain of heaven. Man ate of the bread of angels; he sent them food in abundance.” –PSALMS 78:23-25
“Thou didst give thy people food of angels, and without their toil thou didst supply them from heaven with bread ready to eat, providing every pleasure and suited to every taste.” –WISDOM 16:20

Quote of the Day
“What wonderful majesty! What stupendous condescension! O sublime humility! O humble sublimity! That the Lord of the whole universe, God and the Son of God, should humble Himself like this under the form of a little bread, for our salvation.” –St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.

Scripture Reflection
“Jesus then said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world.’ They said to him, ‘Lord, give us this bread always.’ Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.'” –JOHN 6:32-35

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh. . . . Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” –JOHN 6:51, 53

Quote of the Day
“Recognize in this bread what hung on the cross, and in this chalice what flowed from His side… whatever was in many and varied ways announced beforehand in the sacrifices of the Old Testament pertains to this one sacrifice which is revealed in the New Testament.” –St. Augustine, pray for us

“For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also the chalice, after supper, saying, ‘This chalice is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.'” –1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-25

Quote of the Day
“The Bread that we need each day to grow in eternal life, makes of our will a docile instrument of the Divine Will; sets the Kingdom of God within us; gives us pure lips, and a pure heart with which to glorify his holy name.” –St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, pray for us.

“Whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.” –1 CORINTHIANS 11:27-29

Quote of the Day
“If it is ‘daily bread,’ why do you take it once a year? . . . Take daily what is to profit you daily. Live in such a way that you may deserve to receive it daily. He who does not deserve to receive it daily, does not deserve to receive it once a year.” –St. Ambrose, pray for us.

“Hear, O Lord, my prayer: and let my cry come to thee. Turn not away thy face from me: in the day when I am in trouble, incline thy ear to me. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, hear me speedily. For my days are vanished like smoke: and my bones are grown dry like fuel for the fire. Quote of the Day
“Let us not, I beg you, slay ourselves by our irreverence, but with awe and purity draw near to it; and when you see it set before you, say to yourself: ‘Because of this Body am I no longer earth and ashes, no longer a prisoner, but free: because of this I hope for heaven, and [I hope] to receive the good things therein, immortal life, the portion of angels, to converse with Christ.'” –St. John Chrysostom, pray for us.

Prayer for Eucharistic Transformation
Recent decades have witnessed a rise in instances of Eucharistic abuse, from violations of liturgical norms to unorthodox practices that encourage irreverence and even habitual sacrilege. The coronavirus situation of 2020 elevated the problem to crisis levels, prompting a wave of sacramental manipulation, desacralization, and deprivation that has left almost no Catholic in the world unharmed.
These disturbing “signs of the times” call for a vigorous and faithful response. To start 2021 off on the right spiritual footing, and inspired by the compelling insights shared in The Holy Bread of Eternal Life: Restoring Eucharistic Reverence in an Age of Impiety by Peter Kwasniewski, Sophia Press is conducting a Eucharistic Reverence and Reparation Novena to atone for the Eucharistic abuses of last year and reintroduce proper respect and awe for the Holy Eucharist.
With Pew surveys showing that a majority of Catholics no longer believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, we are moved to address this situation through a dedicated international prayer effort to make 2021 a year dedicated to restoring Eucharistic Reverence in the Catholic Church.
